The vision was to create something soft and inviting: a planting scheme that would feel natural and abundant, with a nod to cottage gardens and a sense of quiet romance.

The Challenge

The space presented several challenges. Its northwest orientation meant limited direct sunlight, calling for plants that would thrive in part shade. As a former utility space, the area lacked beauty, structure, and purpose, offering little beyond its practical past

The brief also required a delicate balance — planting that would feel full and generous, yet not overwhelm the space. And crucially, it had to capture a mood of gentle nostalgia while providing enough variety to sustain interest across the seasons.

The Solution

To bring the space to life, a mix of robust perennials, light, textural grasses, and soft-hued roses was introduced — plants chosen not just for their resilience, but for their ability to catch light and create atmosphere.

The palette is calm and cohesive, with shapes and tones that shift subtly through the seasons. The result is a quietly expressive garden corner — one that feels rooted, welcoming, and gently transformed.
